Does The Cheesecake Factory Take Reservations?

For most of its history, no. The Cheesecake Factory seated everyone from the host stand, and a Saturday-night wait was part of the visit.

That changed in early 2020, when the chain began taking reservations through Yelp at every restaurant. Today 214 of the 214 restaurants we track take online bookings. Only a share of each dining room is held for bookings, which is why an online slot can be gone while walk-ins are still being seated.

Walk-ins and Wait Times

Reservations are optional. Every location that offers dine-in service (214 restaurants) accepts walk-in guests.

If you decide to walk in on a Friday night, Saturday evening, or during Sunday brunch, you should be prepared for a wait time that can easily stretch from 45 minutes to over an hour. When you arrive, the host will take your name and phone number and send you an SMS text message when your table is ready. You are free to walk around the surrounding mall or shopping center while you wait, but you must return promptly once notified.

Reserving for Large Parties and Birthdays

A table for two or four books online in under a minute. A birthday dinner for ten doesn't.

The online system takes parties of six or fewer. Anything bigger goes through the restaurant itself, so call the location, ideally a week ahead for a weekend night, and ask what it can seat together.

When booking actually matters

On a weekday, walking in is usually fine the dining rooms are large and turnover is quick. The picture changes at three moments: Friday and Saturday evening, weekend brunch, and any holiday that people mark with a meal out. Those are the slots where a reservation is the difference between sitting down and standing at the host stand.

Party size matters more than day of week. A table for two can usually be absorbed; a party of six or more needs a plan, and some restaurants handle large groups by phone rather than through the online system.

Before you book

Check the location page first. Opening hours differ store to store, and a restaurant inside a mall often closes earlier than a freestanding one nearby. If brunch is the plan, the brunch window is narrower than the opening hours the brunch guide lists the window for every restaurant that runs one.
